London Rickshaw Hire, a Sophisticated Way to Travel
Their range of tours. There are several big rickshaw companies in the capital, but this is the one that claims to offer an unmatched collection of entertaining tours through the West End, Hyde park. From our enquiries, they certainly have a decent case. If you’re looking to get anywhere in Zone 1, they can take you and do so in style. You’ll learn a fair bit and generally enjoy the atmosphere. Apart from that, they rock the usual eco-friendly and mobile media selling points that we’ve come to expect from any type of pedicab in the capital these days.
Entertainment and Coverage
This really is the crunch point for the review, given that their USP is mainly centred around tours. If they can’t provide a great time to consumers, then they’re indistinguishable from the others, another face in the crowd. So how did they do? Well, they were definitely quite impressive in some regards. Their guides seemed to know what they were talking about, even if it was fairly basic. We would say that it was an enjoyable trip that stands up very well when considered independently. The problem is that it doesn’t do so well in context. There are some damn good tours in London these days. People that will enchant their listeners, skilled professionals who know how to make its history come alive. They set a very high bar, and it’s not quite met here. The question is whether the novelty of the rickshaw makes up for that difference in quality. For newcomers, then it most likely does but once the novelty wearsoff, you’re better off on a bus or walking tour.
Generally very good. They have some excellent experience in the industry, so it’s not surprising to see them handle most situations with ease. They’re the kind of company that you would want on your side in an emergency. If you’re handling a big budget advertising job, that’s the kind of safety net you need to see before making an investment: even if there are complications, you know that they’ll work hard to turn the situation around. Like most rickshaw providers in the capital, they handle all requests via phone or telephone, and generally get back to you very quickly. You can go from idea to reality in very little time at all.
Decent enough. There isn’t that much of a cutthroat industry with rickshaws because their rates are almost all very similar. It isn’t like working with taxis, where our reviews are often largely coloured by their prices. Here, a rate of a few dozen pounds is normally all that distinguishes one quote from another. Renting pedicabs generally comes at the same rate. What doesn’t however, is making promotional material. This is where you can either choose to cut corners or pay the money to get the job done well. The latter is pretty much the case here, with high quality prints being used to ensure that the rickshaws look good, even when stationary and viewed from nearby.
The riders were friendly enough, if not amazingly so. Still, it was a nice change to the faux positivity that some of the people in this profession seem to employ. The company itself was also very accommodating in quoting us for the advertising job that we wanted, and happy to make changes and adjustments on the fly to suit our needs.
Overall, London Rickshaw Hire is a solid contender. It doesn’t truly excel in any one area, despite its claims, but it’s still far from a bad choice. We wonder what niche they truly fit into though: not offering a cheap service but also not going for the ultra sleek designs that you’ll see in some of the modern fleets. A truly middle of the road option in many ways, although that might be where the money is. Only time will tell but, as this review should have told you, you could certainly do worse.
