goldentours, the best choice of London bus Tours
Tours of the whole city and transit to some places you wouldn’t necessarily expect to get to. It’s the latter that really interests us: there are plenty of London bus tours already, but the idea of getting one of these scenic buses to take you directly to some of the more esoteric attractions is a brilliant one. The Warner Brothers Studios tour is an especially popular choice, and one that we have made ourselves in alternative transport. We left from North London but still had to make numerous changes between tube, bus and taxi. The overall experience ended up costing a sizeable chunk of money, that could have easily be saved if we realised Goldentours ran a service dedicated to getting there and back. It’s a great niche to be filling, and we’re surprised that no one else has thought of it.
In terms of their central London tours, it’s fairly standard. There isn’t a whole lot of variance between the top brands most of the time, and it often comes down to offers to make the difference. When using them as transit however, they really become great value. As we mentioned, heading to the Harry Potter tour is normally very expensive by public transport. Goldentours buses reach beyond the usual extent of the tube and buses however, and will end up saving you that very expensive taxi ride out to the studios. The same goes for many other attractions, and there is a degree of value in being able to get to them without having to worry about changing every 15 minutes.
It does seem to vary rather wildly. For some people, these tours offer absolutely amazing amounts of entertainment. They get off the bus and profess that they’ve never had so fun. Others get off and moan about loudspeakers blasting ads throughout the tour, and old buses that made enjoying things rather difficult. Our own experience was mixed. We loved some of the enthusiastic content that we were treated to, but there was a sense that it was all a bit samey. Where was the information from off the beaten track, the stories that make it all come alive? It wasn’t bad and maybe we’re just jaded, but it felt a little tired. Not Old Yeller, better take it behind the shed and put it out of its misery tired, but certainly not full of life and energy.
If there’s an issue, then you can expect a good degree of support depending on what it is. That last part is definitely important. If there was a technical hitch or your service didn’t turn up, they’re obliging. If you just had a bad time or found the driver to be rude, you’ll get nothing. Nada. Zilch. We’re not saying that they don’t care, but they certainly won’t go out of their way to make you feel better about the whole experience.
Number of Tours
Very good, especially as they include transport links to commercial tours like the Warner Brothers one that we’ve already mentioned. You’re certainly not short of options if you choose this company.
A solid and dependable service that operates a great transit link system to attractions as well as their usual tours. That really is their saving grace, because in many other respects they’re just another bus tour company. If you see one and fancy a tour, don’t hesitate to jump on, but if you have a little more time to plan then read through the other reviews and you’ll realise that there are a few services that simply trump Goldentours.
